Apartments Villa Maelise

Wonderful location and the best service. I’d definitely recommend it.

For this price range, having one person sleep on the sofa because there aren't enough rooms or beds for 5 people is completely unacceptable. We also got only one key, so if the group splits up, one half has to wait for the other to come back with it. The pool shuts at 8 pm, and the air conditioning keeps making noise. A security deposit was demanded at check-in, though it hadn't been mentioned anywhere. The rules were extremely strict and weren't listed on Airbnb. The evening security guard is always there and said we were noisy and needed to quiet down, even though I was the only person on the balcony for 10 seconds. At least there aren't any rules about how to breathe.

It’s a lovely place and I’d like to return to the area, but I’d book somewhere else. I can’t recommend this complex, and I think the cost is too high for what it offers. We booked 3 of the 7 apartments for 15 people for 4 days. The complex was clean and well located. You can walk to the center of Novalja in 15 minutes. The staff’s English could have been much better. Booking.com advertised it as 4-star, but it has only 3 stars. There are 2 cameras around the pool, and staff use them to monitor every movement. I don’t even want to know where else there might be cameras. Pool swimming is permitted only from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. None of the lights worked in any of our 3 rooms, and the shower/bathtub in our room was quite old. I hung a shirt soaked by rainwater on the shower stall to dry, and the next morning it had a few spots of mold.

The apartment was fantastic, and the receptionists were really friendly. The house, apartments, and pool were all very clean. Getting to the town center is easy on foot, by car, or with the apartment’s free bicycle rental. Parking costs 20 kuna for 1 hour. The sea access here is tricky because there are lots of sea urchins, so you need water shoes or can drive 2 km to the sandy/pebbly beach, where sun loungers and parasols are available to rent. There are boats, and the children have a water playground with a slide and swings. We’ll be back! :-)
