For our group’s four-night guys’ trip, the apartment was decent, though problems with cleanliness and the owner’s management left us with a bitter finish. We were glad the deposit was eventually returned, which is why I’m giving two stars rather than one. The location was pretty good, about a five-minute walk from the sea, with a bakery and small shop nearby. It cost under 100 euros a night. Amenities were decent: a pool, parking, one AC unit in the main area, a balcony with a nice view, plenty of beds and chairs, and a table outside. The duplex-style place seemed to have three full bedrooms, if I remember right. It also had glasses, utensils, a washing machine and towels for everyone, but no soap and only two toilet paper rolls. Fortunately, there were stores close by. My bed was comfortable, but there was no AC in the individual bedrooms, and the toilet flushing was frustrating: after one flush, it took over 10 minutes to recharge. Cleanliness was poor. We found two cockroaches the first night, the shower head was quite dirty, and there was a lot of pink mold on the shower walls. The main problem was the live-in owner’s behavior. Most of us are in our 30s and responsible adults, not teenagers. On the second day, an older man who said he worked for the property management agency told us alcohol wasn’t allowed by the pool. We accepted that and followed the rule. Later, around 6 PM after the beach, we went in for a swim with some music and playful water gymnastics, no alcohol. Someone shouted through a megaphone from a fifth-floor window telling us not to jump. We stopped, though one person who hadn’t understood the message jumped once; after that we stuck to lifts and other harmless fun. A little later, the same man came down and ordered us out, saying it was nearly 8 PM, though it wasn’t quite that late. Someone else was still swimming after we left. He accused us of being too loud and jumping even though we’d already stopped. Some of our Croatian-speaking friends asked about the rules and were told we were too loud, despite nobody having complained, and that jumping could damage the pool pumps. The discussion got heated, with cursing in Croatian, I was told. The man threatened to keep our deposit and call security. Two security agents arrived but left quickly when they saw we weren’t causing trouble. Our Croatian friends apologized for the language, and things calmed down somewhat. Only then did we find out the man was the owner, not an agency representative. The actual agency rep, who had welcomed us at check-in, had no problem with us and helped cool things down. We stopped using the pool after that. Threatening to withhold a deposit because guests are swimming, jumping and supposedly too loud doesn’t seem reasonable. The owner should let the management agency deal with such matters.
