Apartments Babaja

The sea view was fantastic, easily worth more than five stars. The apartment itself, though, barely deserves three, and wasn't worth the price. We stayed for almost three weeks. No one came by during that time, and the place hadn't been cleaned beyond the floor. The furnishings were extremely dated. We had only one set of bed linen and one set of bath and hand towels for the whole stay, and we weren't sure they were fresh. The white towels looked dirty, really fit for the bin. There was hair in the wardrobe drawers, which were crammed with cushions and other things. Something brown was stuck to the toilet flush handle. The kitchen chairs wobbled, and the freezer looked dirty inside. The kitchen was poorly equipped, missing basics like a spatula, corkscrew, bottle opener, coffee filters, a proper chopping board, and two decent wine glasses. There were lots of mismatched plates with chipped edges. The balcony awning gave no shade during our August-September stay. Several details in the listing didn't match. Our documents gave house number 9, which was a different apartment. The owner didn't live in the building, despite what the description said. The photos made it look like a house, but only the two small upstairs apartments belonged to the landlord. There was no key handover and nobody seemed responsible. The landlords of the lower apartments, who spoke neither German nor English, showed us around. They opened our rental, where the key was already in the inside lock, and we moved in. The listing mentioned a shared grill and a 10 sq m shared garden, but neither was there. The house had two landlords. We found only a small electric grill when we wanted to barbecue downstairs, and as people who care about grilling when choosing a place, we don't consider that a proper alternative. It was also described as being on a hillside with parking right in front. There were two apartments and five parking spaces, but one belonged to our landlord and we never learned who could use it. After we drove away, it was usually occupied again. Across the street there was a property you could unlock with a key and park in, but there was no sign, so we had to figure it out ourselves. One key happened to fit the keyring. The view was great, but that's the one standout.

We come back every year. The owners are nice, the rooms are clean and tidy, and a nice beach is close by. Visitors can use the garden barbecue and pick the grapes grown there for free. I recommend it.
