Camp Almissa

We paid 74 euros for a premium front-row pitch, but it soon became clear that people use the beach as a public walkway, passing within meters of our space. There was also a large group of tents free camping at the far end, and some people from there seemed to be using the showers, bar, and pool, which I had to pay to use. The bar was hard to get service at when we visited, apparently because the staff were having dinner. It’s a shame the staff don’t seem to be local, and appear to have been brought in on low wages, taking work away from Croatians.

The seaside location of the mobile homes deserves an 8/10, but the stay itself was awful. We paid 350 euros per night, plus a 45-euro cleaning fee, yet were told fresh towels and bed linen cost extra. The same went for using a pool sun lounger. The house had almost none of the basics in the kitchen, not even salt, pepper, sugar, oil, or paper towels. For six people over four days, there were only four toilet rolls. We had to buy more, take our own rubbish out, and clean the apartment ourselves, even though cleaning was included. To get rid of rubbish before the place smelled, we had to carry bags 300 meters to the dumpster and find new bags ourselves. At these prices, guests should have basic supplies and be able to enjoy their holiday instead of paying for every little thing and feeling like camp staff. We didn’t feel welcome, and won’t return. It feels like the camp is focused on squeezing as much money as possible from guests rather than helping them enjoy their stay. Our rating is 2/10, and that’s only because of the location. For service, it would be 0/10.

We paid €67 for the cheapest part of the campsite, which turned out to be a parking area for nearby bungalows. It felt like camping among cars, and there was broken glass around our tent in the morning. The public toilets and showers were filthy. Terrible value. I’d avoid this campsite.

Ivan and the animation team made the children’s stay absolutely perfect. At reception, the staff were friendly, though the restaurant was a different story. Two waiters, who I think were Macedonian, really stood out, while the others didn’t seem very interested in providing good service.
