Apartments Villa Devana

Villa Deva is essentially in the center, a few hundred meters from Slatina, just behind the Kvarner Hotel on the main road, Ulica Marsala Tita. It's close to the beach, and the famous ROKO grill restaurant is across the road. The balcony faces the main road, while the kitchen and other room have a view of the sea beside the Kvarner hotel. The apartment has a well-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and stove, plus air conditioning in every room. One bathroom has a washing machine instead of a shower cabin, unfortunately. There are paintings on the walls and nice furniture. Opatija itself is beautiful, and it's easy to see why it was a favorite holiday spot for the ruling class during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, including Emperor Franz Joseph, who even came in winter for the mild climate. He chose the Kvarner Hotel building, originally meant to be a lung sanatorium. After World War I the town was annexed to Italy, then became part of Yugoslavia after World War II. The villas and hotels from 150-160 years ago are wonderful and maintained in exemplary fashion, bringing back memories of peaceful, happy times. It feels like the French and northern Italian Rivieras. There are many tidy parks, including English parks, with palm trees and more. Italian and French visitors still come, along with Germans, Austrians and, of course, Hungarians. Plants and flowers are everywhere along the streets and in the parks. It's hard to understand how they manage in that climate.
