Apartments Matuško

The apartment was okay, but the one we stayed in wasn't shown in any of the photos and felt older. It had air conditioning in each bedroom, plus a temporary standing unit in the kitchen. The views were lovely, the small beach was a 10-minute walk down a steep hill with steps, and a bus stop on the main road right beside the apartment went to the old town. The fare was 19 Kuna each way per person, about £2.50 at the time. The location near the main road was both a plus and a minus. The host wasn't very friendly, and sorting out payment made the stay worse. The booking site said payment would be handled locally with the host and listed cash or card, but he insisted on cash. I had to withdraw money at 7.2Kn to the pound, while my card was giving me 8.3Kn with no fees, costing me about £30 extra. I tried to find a middle ground that would give him most of what he wanted without leaving me so out of pocket, but he wouldn't agree. He kept talking, mostly in Croat, about how difficult things were, how much the agencies charged, and how he might stop renting the apartment. His focus on his own problems and his unreasonable handling of the payment spoiled what was otherwise an okay visit. I wouldn't return.
