Apartment Cico Hvar/Pokrivenik 40602

The apartment could use some updating, and the bathroom is the biggest issue. It's small and unattractive, with no shower handle and no curtain, and looks like it may date from the 1990s. After a storm, the balconies turn into pools because there's no drainage. If luxury matters to you or you pay close attention to those kinds of shortcomings, this may not suit you. The setting is the real draw: the view over Pokrivenik Uvala is magnificent, the blue and emerald Jadran is just steps away, and the large balcony is a lovely place to sit, though an awning would be useful. There's powerful air conditioning, ample parking, and a restaurant about 100 meters away. That's why I gave it three stars.

The bathroom keyhole had more dirt in it than I've ever seen. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. That fit with the rest of the room, which was old, broken, dirty, and in a terrible state. The floor tiles could be lifted one by one, and the faucet handle kept falling off. The photos on Booking.com give a misleading impression, and there was no Wi-Fi despite it being promised. We complained, but nothing was done, even though the manager knew about the conditions. We weren't offered another room. We left two nights early and couldn't agree on a partial refund. It felt like a complete rip-off. They seemed more interested in selling extras: air conditioning cost extra, with the price going up when it was hotter, and they offered a package with the hotel's restaurant for the dirty kitchen, which had no proper equipment. Never again. I can only warn people against booking here.

I booked after Booking.com showed the accommodation as only 23 kilometers from where I was in Brela, Croatia. I only found out afterward that the drive takes 2.5 hours. I called the hotel right away to ask for a cancellation, but they didn't cancel it and ended the call. I tried reaching them three more times and couldn't get through. Booking.com hasn't refunded my payment either. Very unprofessional service.

The beautiful area on the island was the only reason we stayed. The accommodation itself was awful, and I wouldn't set foot there again. Everything was old and worn. We reported on the first evening that the balcony door wouldn't close, and although they said they'd sort it out the next day, it was never fixed during our 10-night stay. The kitchen barely had any equipment. Using both burners tripped the circuit breaker, which was in another apartment, so we could only use one. Even one star feels too generous. If you're going to Hvar, stay somewhere else.
