Hotel Dua Residence

At first, everything made a very good impression. The room was comfortable and perfectly clean, the breakfast was excellent, and the hotel itself seemed to offer a high standard of service. Then the nightclub across the street kept us awake all night. It felt more like an alcohol den than a proper club. We’d booked just one night because we needed to get up at 6 a.m. for a 7 a.m. ferry to Venice. The party started around 11 p.m. and went until 4 a.m. Our room was on the hotel corner nearest the club, so the noise was especially bad. Shutters, pillows over our heads, and noise-cancelling AirPods did nothing to block it. At 1 a.m. we went to reception to ask for earplugs or another room farther away. Only the night guard was there, and he couldn’t help. He said parties were especially loud on Saturdays and “should” finish by 2 a.m., but this one lasted until 4. I don’t know how legal it is to allow that kind of noise in the city centre, but the situation was appalling. It feels unfair to blame the hotel directly, yet when you pay nearly €200 for a night, you expect to sleep. We’d told them at check-in we had an early start and got no warning that this might happen. We ended up with no sleep, a ruined next day, and a very disappointing stay. I wish I could rate it better, but this was unacceptable.

We couldn’t sleep because of a nearby nightclub, and nothing mentioned it beforehand. Music blasted until morning, and even with the windows shut we got no rest. It ruined our stay. Guests complained, but the hotel ignored the problem and didn’t provide earplugs. At this price, those conditions are unacceptable. No amenity or service makes up for losing a night’s sleep. It’s not worth the money, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone hoping to get even a few hours of rest.

Otherwise, it’s a super hotel. But I fell for the old 212 trick: advertise a room on Booking at a steep discount, so the customer, me, is thrilled. Then you check in and find the room’s basically a cupboard. Ask for another room and there goes that discount. Bit like horse trading.
