Hotel Parentium Plava Laguna

The rooms were great, but the rest of our experience with friends was not exactly good. We’d both booked superior rooms a month ahead. When we arrived, they said the rooms were fully booked because of a conference. It seemed conference guests had priority despite our earlier booking. For a hotel of this class, that was terrible service. They should have told those guests the superior rooms were all taken and given them classic rooms instead. Our room was downgraded from park view and had a very bad view, if you can call it a view. The only compensation offered was a late checkout at 18:00 instead of 12:00. Dinner was below average, even worse for a premium hotel. I haven’t had worse sushi anywhere, and they should just remove it. Even LIDL sushi is much better. The watermelon was so overripe it had slimy, dark red patches, and people left it on their plates. It tasted worse too. The melon was cut badly and hard as a raw potato. Drinks weren’t included, not even water. A 0,2L juice was nearly 4,30€, and 1L water 4,80€. Dinner drinks were overpriced when you could get a pool cocktail for 6,40€. Other 3 star hotels at half the nightly price include drinks, beer and wine with dinner. Breakfast was good overall, though there wasn’t much chicken, if any. At least coffee, milk, hot water and different kinds of juice were free. The juice was just syrup mixed with water, and I think they don’t use the mesh filter on their faucets, because there were tiny stones at the bottom of the glass. The pools were okay. One outdoor pool was supposed to be heated, and it was on the first day, but cold the next day.

Dinner drinks are overpriced, haha, Yugoslavian business model. The food is edible, but I wouldn’t bring a business partner here. Staff are well-behaved and kind, and mostly non-Croatian, so be ready to speak English or maybe some other East-Asian languages! :)

The only real plus is the location near the beach. They say this is a 4 star hotel, but it feels like 3 stars. There’s no kettle or coffee machine in the room, and I don’t think that merits 4 stars. They also told me there was a 24/7 fitness center on -1. I went at 06:45 and found nothing, only a sign saying wellness opens at 09:00. What?

We stayed at Hotel Parentium Plava Laguna in July 2025. The hotel looks impressive, with a welcoming entrance, a stylish modern lobby and well maintained facilities. The outdoor pool is large and beautiful, the beach access is lovely, and there’s a heated indoor pool for rainy days. Breakfast and dinner buffets were generally good, with a rich variety, fresh ingredients and good taste. The desserts were a letdown, though, industrial and low quality compared with the rest of the food. The room and service took away a lot from the stay. We were first put in room 128, which felt among the worst located rooms in the hotel. It was very small for three people, with barely any room to move once the extra bed was in. The first-floor balcony looked onto a roof, with no view, and there was a bee or wasp nest right on the balcony wall. We couldn’t open the door or sit outside. I asked reception for another room and was told there were no alternatives. Then the housekeeper came, saw the bees and confirmed nothing could be done, and suddenly we were offered room 167. It was frustrating and frankly disrespectful to feel my complaint wasn’t taken seriously until a staff member saw the problem themselves. In the new room, the bed for our teenage son, 14.5 years old, was a fold out sofa bed, uncomfortable and unsuitable for his size and age. There was no electric kettle or coffee/tea set, something I’d expect even in a basic 4-star hotel. There wasn’t even a complimentary bottle of water when we arrived, a small but appreciated gesture after a long journey. They offered late checkout until 6:00 PM after we raised our concerns, but we had a long drive to Italy and had to leave early, so it didn’t help. We appreciated the offer, but it didn’t address the main problems. The experience didn’t match the price we paid. Considering the room quality and service, the value for money wasn’t adequate.
