The main issue for me was the landlady. She lives downstairs and spent all day and late into the night sitting in a chair outside the apartment, watching what was going on and ready to come in without permission. She couldn’t speak English, either. The house didn’t suit a family holiday or a trip with friends. The two bathrooms are very cramped. One has no shower, and there was a constant smell from the pipes. The kitchen is tiny, and when it rains there’s nowhere comfortable to sit, either in there or in the living room. It’s also a long way from the island’s main attractions, including good beaches, restaurants and pubs. The nearby beach is very small and has no facilities, Novalja is 40 minutes away, and there’s no public transport.

A nice location, with good food at reasonable prices.

I wouldn’t recommend this place, even for a family. We stayed in the first-floor apartment with friends, and although it’s cheap and can sleep quite a lot of people, the amenities are very poor. The apartment itself was in bad shape. The terrace is fairly roomy, but the plaster is coming off the walls and the floor is crumbling. In the kitchen, there are only two uncomfortable burners and a tiny sink, though there are plenty of pots, pans and utensils. One bathroom is tiny and has no shower. The other has a shower but is also very small and poorly equipped, with no robe hooks, for instance, and a lingering pipe smell. If you’re a large group of friends hoping for a somewhat lively vacation, this isn’t the place, even if you’re not planning parties or excesses. The landlady lives downstairs and, if you don’t know Croatian, it’s impossible to communicate with her. She may step in and enter the house, speaking insistently in Croatian.

The owner made communication difficult because she wasn’t willing to make herself understood or interact with us. While we were staying there with friends, she came into the house whenever she wanted, often at the worst times. She seemed to have some unexplained prejudice against us, and her intrusions were invasive, to say the least.
