Villa Marello

The setting is lovely, with a great view and everything close by. They changed the towels daily and the sheets once a week, but the price was far too high for what we got. The whole hotel smelled of sewage, and that persistent odor in our room was awful. We also kept having trouble with the air conditioning, and there were no glasses or kettle. Breakfast was a real disappointment for a supposed 4-star hotel. It was the same dull spread every day, with cucumber and tomato as the only vegetables. There wasn’t much for either vegetarians or meat-eaters. Breakfast runs from 7:00 to 10:00, but on our departure day we got there around 7:20 and basic items like bread, scrambled eggs, and fried eggs still weren’t ready. We waited until 8:00 or later, lost valuable time, and left much later than planned. That was extremely frustrating and shouldn’t happen. I definitely do NOT recommend staying here, and we won’t return.

I’m reviewing the restaurant only. With hundreds of restaurant visits behind me, this was the worst service I’ve had in years. When the place filled up, the staff couldn’t keep up at all. We waited an hour and a half before learning they couldn’t make the octopus salad because there was no octopus. Before that, they’d forgotten our drink and hadn’t warned us about the long wait. They also brought a different main dish from the one ordered, and the fish was extremely salty. Other tables beside us were complaining about the delays too. After all those mistakes, the waiter didn’t offer any apology or even a coffee on the house. It left us thinking the hotel and restaurant don’t care about good customer service, since some tourists leave and others will come anyway.

We loved the food throughout our stay, and the view was the best we’ve ever seen. The hotel staff and service were very professional.

We had a meal at the restaurant and really enjoyed the food. The location is great too.
