Artena Hotel

We could walk easily to restaurants and the arena from this wonderful location, and there’s parking right behind the building. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room’s a/c wasn’t working when we arrived, but the woman at the front desk quickly moved us to another room where it worked.

My friends and I had a lovely stay and will definitely be back sometime soon. Breakfast was well prepared, the service was great, and the staff were very polite. The location is close to the city Center, and there’s plenty of parking.

I’d love to stay at hotel Artena again. It’s an ideal place to relax and enjoy Pula, with clean rooms, a very comfortable bed, and friendly staff who are always ready to help.

We only stayed one night, probably for the best. The room and beds looked nice and spacious, and seemed clean at first. But the bathroom had a towel that seemed wet and dirty, and the ashtray and bins hadn’t been fully emptied. We moved on from those things pretty quickly, since other problems soon came up. We arrived an hour before check-in, and the receptionist was really nice and courteous, saying our room was ready. It was 36 degrees outside, so we were glad to get into air-conditioned rooms and rest before going to explore the city. But the double room had two separate ACs and neither was working. Both blew air, one less than the other, but it never got cold. A cleaning lady came by soon after to say she’d taken the baby crib we didn’t need from the room. We mentioned the ACs, and she said she’d report it right away. After waiting 10-15 minutes in the exhausting heat, we went down to reception to sort it out. It seemed the cleaning lady had been chatting with staff but hadn’t told them about the ACs until we brought it up ourselves. They said they’d send someone to repair them, apparently within an hour, and told us we had to leave the rooms until 19:00. So we were out from 15:30 to 19:00, on our only day at the hotel, with no other option. We went out into the city in the worst heat, walking the streets drenched in sweat. When we came back around 22:00, reception said one AC should be working now. That would probably have been fine, since the double rooms don’t even have doors between them. They also said the repair crew might have made a mess and someone would come clean it in the morning, when we were already leaving. I suppose one AC was “working now”, but we had to set it to 5 degrees to feel any cooling at all, and it certainly wasn’t 5 degrees. At our previous hotel the room cooled in about five minutes with the temperature set to 25° celsius. I’ve been writing this for half an hour after spending another half hour in the room, and only now, after an hour with the AC set to 5 degrees, can I feel the room cooling down a bit. I read some nice stuff about the breakfast, sarcasm, so I was really excited to try it before we left. I don’t think we’ll get any compensation for all this, as no one offered any. Other than the problems, I appreciated the early check-in, the nice parking, and the staff being friendly, if somewhat unhelpful. The location was quiet but close to everything we wanted to see in Pula. I just wish we hadn’t been evicted for most of the day. They could have offered us two separate rooms with working ACs, though apparently they were full, or given us some sort of compensation. I’m not sure it’s worth spending 200+€ for one night in a double room apartment (APT3). You’ll have to decide for yourself. UPDATE: We asked for compensation and, after a few email exchanges, were unfortunately denied because the issue had been resolved “promptly” on the same day, which was our only day there. I guess the hotel management thinks it’s fine to evict an elderly person and a dog into 36+ degrees Celsius. At least the reception staff seemed sorry. Mateo specifically, the receptionist, was the only person at the hotel who treated us with any humanity.
