Brijuni Hotel Neptun

Ema at reception really deserves a special mention. In the night between Saturday and Sunday, I suddenly had a severe allergic reaction. I broke out in a terribly itchy rash, then woke up with a blocked nose and trouble breathing, which had never happened to me before. I was frightened, but Ema calmed me right away. She explained there was no emergency ward on Brijuni, though an on-call doctor could be reached if necessary. She offered me her own antihistamine syrup and stayed with me while I took it until I felt better. She also wrote down my room number and asked me to contact her if I got worse. Thankfully the syrup worked, and the rash was gone by morning. I don’t know what I would have done without her, probably panicked in the middle of the night and made a dramatic call to the doctor. Her kindness and calm professionalism are things some of her more arrogant, experienced colleagues at reception and in the restaurant could learn from. My husband and I stayed August 8-10, in the middle of peak season, but the hotel never felt crowded, which was a big plus. It’s an older place, but it’s well maintained and clean, with lots of lush green plants. Our room was clean and a decent size, and everything worked perfectly. The restaurant food was very good, and we enjoyed dinner even more than breakfast. I also loved the Kupelwieser family exhibition in the hallway, which gives a great look at the history of the Brijuni Islands. Most of the staff were polite and helpful, so I’ll overlook the occasional rude remark and put it down to that familiar problem in Croatian hospitality, frustration when guests paying a lot expect equally high service. I’m Croatian myself, so I know it well. I’d like to see clearer information at the hotel about transport prices on the island, and better integration between the hotel’s electronic wristbands and other services on Brijuni. The staff were warm and kind throughout my visit, which made the stay even nicer. The food was another highlight. I had both breakfast and dinner, with plenty of tasty options and a good mix of variety and quality. Hotel Neptun on Brijuni felt like a real escape from the bustle. Every morning I woke up to birds singing, and the quiet surroundings were unmatched. The rooms have been newly renovated and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. I’d highly recommend it for a peaceful getaway with great service.

This is a review of the food at Kavana Brioni, outside the hotel reception. I asked the waiter for a suggestion and was pushed toward a sandwich because, he said, the vegetarian option would take longer. It arrived in about a minute, cold from the fridge and wrapped in plastic, so it was clearly made ahead. It looked and tasted old and moldy. Paying 8 € for it felt almost insulting, since it was like the 1-2 € sandwiches sold at a gas station. It ruined the whole impression I had of Brioni Island. By the way, thanks for replying to my review. There’s nothing to understand or accept. You sold me a gas station sandwich that costs 1 euro and charged me 8 euros.

Mark the area properly and stop fining people for approaching the park. You’re taking money from tourists through illegal fines. Have a nice day, and keep making money.
