Crazy House Hostel

The beds were comfortable, with privacy curtains, and the lockers were spacious. The room had AC, the staff were friendly, and there was a nice outdoor patio. It’s also a short walk from the bus station. The shared bathrooms serve several rooms, and the toilet stalls only have curtains, with no locks. I was using the toilet with the curtain shut when a cleaner came in and pulled it open. He apologized, but it was still pretty crazy. You'd think someone would check whether a closed curtain meant the stall was occupied. They also have a strange rule against staying in common areas, including the patio, after checkout. If you want to hang around until 5pm, you have to pay €10 per person.

The staff were so rude and unhelpful that it was almost embarrassing to see them in customer-facing jobs. I haven't run into service like that in a long time. Save yourself the hassle and stay at one of the many better hostels in Pula.

After traveling through 50 countries and staying in hundreds of places, I've never been told I couldn't sit and wait for check-in after arriving early. I got there an hour ahead, feeling tired and sick, with 34-degree heat outside. I asked if I could sit in the air conditioning and use a little WiFi. Both staff members answered “no!” at the same time. There was no shower gel or even hand wash in the toilets. I asked about doing laundry and was told to come back the next morning. When I did, they said it wasn't possible because I was checking out soon. Another no, so I guess I'll be taking my big bag of dirty clothes on the road. I also heard them complaining about this summers tourists. If they're unhappy, maybe it's time to sell up and move on instead of making other people unhappy too.

I came back for my bag after checking out and asked the woman if I could wait there for about 30 minutes until my bus. It was really hot outside, the reception was empty, and there were plenty of seats, plus a backyard where I could've sat without bothering anyone. Nobody was checking in either. She said no, explaining that I wasn't a guest anymore and should wait somewhere else. I was a guest, but apparently once you've checked out they don't want to help or show you any kindness. I'm very dissatisfied with this hostel.
