Camping Vestar

The campsite is lovely and right by the sea, which is beautiful. The chalets felt dated for what we paid, 2500e for a week, and there was no oven or dishwasher. Food and drink at the bars and restaurants were pricey too, about the same as or more than back home in Amsterdam.

We really liked how clean and peaceful the campsite was, and the facilities were in great shape. Still, our motorhome barely fit on the pitch. We parked diagonally and left part of the space unused, which worked out in the end. The walk to Rovinj is often called easy, but I wouldn't call it short or particularly pleasant. The Konzum supermarket and bakery prices were extremely high. I get paying extra for meals, services, or sports on holiday, but groceries felt excessive. Our pitch was around €135 a night. We knew the price beforehand, so that was our choice.

We stayed four nights and chose our pitch from the availability printout at reception. The next booking for it was a full day after our checkout. When we were packing up, we realized we were late and left about an hour after checkout. We weren't getting in anyone's way, and when I checked later in the evening after we left, the pitch was free. Even so, reception said the next guests had been waiting because of us and demanded payment for another day. After we refused, a manager came over. He seemed experienced in this kind of pressure, though I can't say whether management approved it or he acted on his own. He eventually said they wouldn't charge us. The fridge we had ordered arrived only after I reminded them that evening, despite waiting all day, and nobody offered compensation for the inconvenience. Also, watch out for the huge spiders. One bit our daughter and her hand swelled up. I came away feeling the campsite was mainly trying to get as much money out of guests as it could.

The garbage islands made the whole campsite stink, and the sea was foamy with no current. Our pitch was covered in dog shit. We booked two nights but left after just one because it was unbearable. They gave us a discount for one day, but we only stayed one night, so what was the discount for? Never again.
