Hotel Selce

The location and views are good, but the whole experience felt well below what we paid for. The hotel seems like a tourist trap. It’s an old Yugoslav hotel with a few modern upgrades, and I believe they delete reviews from past years on the booking site. Parking is hard to get unless you stay a long time or “know somebody”; the reception gives you nothing but lies, but that’s life. There was no balcony furniture, despite the pictures on Booking. Breakfast was oddly limited, with only two or three kinds of vegetables and a poor selection for the price. Watch out for the elevator, it’s partly broken and the doors may catch you. The beds were hard as concrete and the pillows soft as air, so we didn’t sleep well.

It’s conveniently located for getting to the beach, but parking around town is nearly impossible and the hotel has very few spaces. In my opinion, this is more of a two-star hotel. The food, comfort and restaurant cleanliness were below average. Staff were friendly, though they could barely speak English.

My wife and I stayed here twice, and both visits were excellent. We had a sea-view room, which is hard to describe, and a balcony with a table and chairs where we could sit for hours with a bottle of wine or something. The room was clean and odor-free, and the air conditioning, internet and hot water all worked. Food was good, and there’s also a pizzeria at the hotel. The exit opens right onto the promenade, with the beach a 5-7 minute walk away and a supermarket nearby. We were very pleased!

The hotel staff were genuinely friendly and always smiling, and our room was clean. People in the shops seemed unfriendly, as if they’d had enough of tourists. We had half board, with meals served only as a buffet, and the food was good. The one thing we missed was gluten-free food in the morning, so we bought some at the shop about 50 metres from the hotel. For this price, it really felt like five stars. Sure, there are many higher-class hotels, but you’d pay much, much more.
