Hotel Garten

The owner’s hospitality was incredible. She made us feel more welcome than we have anywhere else, prepared a lovely fresh breakfast just how we wanted it, and even gave us a small jar of honey. She also showed us around the dining rooms. There were boiled eggs, sunny side up eggs, an omelet, warm croissants, Easter bread and cake. We stopped in Slavonski Brod for one night on a long drive and arrived around 23h. We had called ahead, and they waited for us. The room was clean and furnished in an old style. Talking with the female owner by phone and in person went very well. Phone communication with the male owner was different, perhaps because of hearing issues. I’d recommend this hotel, and we’ll come back on another long trip.

There’s free parking beside the hotel, and Interspar and Müller are on the way into town. We’ve stayed here twice, and the room was very warm in winter. Hotel Garten, Slavonski Brod is a convenient overnight stop on the Zagreb–Belgrade route, just a few kilometers from the highway. It has a pleasant ethno style, clean rooms, regular beds, a good bathroom and air conditioning. Breakfast is available, and the staff are friendly. A good road trip stop, recommended.

This was the worst hotel. The rooms were tiny and dirty, with spiders in every corner, and the whole place smelled bad. The two older people who manage it don’t speak English. Breakfast was awful, barely anything you could eat. I wouldn’t recommend it at all.

This is my go-to stop when I travel this route. Driving from Germany, it’s about 8-9 hours from Munich, for example. There’s a good restaurant, and on-site parking means you can leave the car packed without worrying. The hospitality is outstanding, too. They help with everything and even made sandwiches for us when we had to leave before breakfast.
