There’s plenty to explore right in Janjina, from the grocery store and fishmongers to wineries, a playground, and even an art gallery. We also found several beaches and restaurants just a 5-10 minute drive away. The apartment sits in the heart of Mountain Village (Gornoje Celo), and its cave bedroom stayed cool during the day. We enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen and lounge, too. Goran’s family, who shared the terrace with us, were warm and quick to help with requests, and their tips were useful. Sharing wine and food with them gave us a chance to hear about village life and Croatian culture. The village, once called “Small Paris,” has a lot of character. We’d love to return.

The hosts made the stay memorable. We arrived tired and hungry on the first evening while they were having sea bass on the terrace. Before I could even think about how it tasted, they’d invited us to join them, though we said no. Later, after a lovely evening together over dinner, we asked whether we could buy sea bass the next day, prepare it for the grill, and have them grill it with us. They agreed, and we had another wonderful evening. The apartment was clean, as we expected, but seeing it in person was something else. The photos don’t prepare you for the feeling of sleeping in a cave. Wow.

The owner was incredibly welcoming, and the apartments were decorated beautifully. I’ve never felt so peaceful and relaxed. We’ll be back next year. :)

We had a very bad stay in the stone house. The dishes and the house were dirty, the air conditioning didn’t work, and the mosquito nets were torn. The outdoor kitchen was out of order too. More or less nothing worked, so we packed up and left. A disaster.

The owners were so friendly, and I can’t wait to return 😍. The apartments were clean and tidy, with lovely decor and a distinctive atmosphere. Ours had everything we needed, and then some.
