Villa Ria

The view is beautiful, the room was very clean, and the pool has been nicely renovated. But after a nine-hour trip, arriving late and tired, we found the room had no basics at all, not even tea, salt, pepper or oil. We had to buy everything, and for this price I expected more, especially since it cost about the same as a hotel, where those things are standard. I’ve stayed in plenty of Airbnbs, so I thought there’d be more provided. The washing machine is listed, but unless you bring your own detergent and softener, each wash costs an extra €5, which is far too much. When I asked about it, the host said she wasn’t a hotel, even though the price was hotel-level. Such a shame given the lovely location.

The place was clean and nice, but it felt pretty expensive. After years of visiting Croatia, I’m starting to wonder why I keep coming back when hospitality across services feels mediocre and prices keep climbing to levels you see in other European countries that seem more expensive.

The sea is only a short walk away, and there’s a pool at the property, plus plenty of parking. Our apartment was spotless, nicely furnished, and had air conditioning and a sea view. The hosts were friendly, the price was fair, and we had a great stay.
