The staff were kind, and we liked our room and the spa, but dinner left us so frustrated that I wouldn't stay here again. The pool also wasn't very clean, and its stairs felt wobbly and unsafe. Breakfast was fine and had plenty of choices, though the meats weren't labeled there either, including the sausages and salami. We were tired and hungry, so we chose burgers, assuming a basic burger would be an easy safe choice. The patty smelled strange, looked pale, and tasted sour and unlike any beef burger I'd had. I realized it was pork. The menu didn't say it was a beef and pork mix, and I don't understand why a four-star hotel wouldn't disclose that. People avoid pork for dietary, religious, or health reasons. I also expected a regular burger to be minced beef, with bacon listed if it was included. We sent the burgers back and ate only the fries, yet paid €17 each. That price for a burger made mostly with pork felt ridiculous. The hotel is already pricey, especially its restaurant. Without that disappointing, expensive dinner, we might have stayed again, but now we won't.

The closest good restaurant I found was about 30 minutes away, so dining nearby wasn't convenient. The hotel itself feels old-fashioned, with modest rooms, a broken elevator, and only mediocre service. I arrived late for breakfast after being jet-lagged and asked if I could at least have a coffee from the machine. They pointed at the time and said absolutely not, quite exasperated, even though I acknowledged I was late. It's okay as a first place to sleep off jet lag, but there are better options a little further away.

The location near trakoscan lake and castle was a real plus, and there are children's playgrounds in the hotel garden. Our buffet breakfast and dinner had lots of options, and I liked the food I chose. The photos I shared show the area around the hotel. We got there two hours before check-in, but our room was already ready, so they let us in early even though it was summer and the hotel was quite full. Staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and we had no problems. We booked two hours for the pool and sauna. You need to arrange your pool time before your stay, as the hotel limits how many guests use it at once for everyone's comfort.

We were traveling with our family and dog and stopped for one night at Hotel Trakošćan. They'd put out a bowl of water and food for our dog in the room, a thoughtful touch we really appreciated. The room was very clean, and breakfast had lots of choices. The beautiful, peaceful surroundings made us wish we had more time there. Next time we'd stay longer to enjoy the nature properly. A lovely, welcoming place for a comfortable stay.

The setting is great for a family trip, with the castle to see and the lake to stroll around. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel: the room was clean and nice, the food was excellent, and everything exceeded what we expected.
