Villa Trau dOro

We couldn't agree with the previous review. Our room was clean when we arrived, and the bathroom had a rail for towels, plus there was an extra clothes horse for drying swimming gear and towels. The staff were very friendly and helpful, always greeting us, and they kept our luggage on our last day after checkout, a few hours before we left for the airport. While we waited, they even offered us free drinks. The promenade and harbour are about five minutes away on foot, and beaches are 10-15 minutes away. The pool isn't huge, but we used it most days and it was usually fairly quiet, with enough space to share with other guests. It was cleaned every day. Breakfast was like at other hotels, with fruit, cereal, yoghurt, some cooked food, and continental options, plus juice, milkshake, tea and coffee. We had a wonderful time at this quaint villa and would recommend it.

The location is nice, and they let us check out an hour later. There's a pool, and the property was renovated in recent years. But a lot of things felt off for a place listed as four stars. I would rate it two. The entrance to our flat was beside a roof that looked clearly like asbestos, which is considered cancerous and should be illegal in most EU countries. The flat seemed decorated by someone who hadn't really spent a few nights living there. Nothing major on its own, but lots of little things made the stay worse. We booked mainly for the pool, but it looked larger in the photos than it was, and often felt tiny and crowded for the number of guests. There are lots of stairs to reach the flat and two floors inside it. The AC filter was filthy with dust, easy to see because it's on the stairs at about eye level. The restaurant had no espresso, just instant coffee and some premade coffee in a thermos. For a four-star hotel, I expected a coffee machine or at least a cappuccino or espresso option. The staff weren't friendly, didn't smile, and didn't make us feel welcome. We found hair in the sheets. The hotel is on a private road, and our Uber drivers complained that they couldn't reach it, which made pickups awkward and uncomfortable. There were no towel hooks beside the shower, and no mirror in the flat except the small one in the bathroom for your face.

Beautiful place, comfortable beds, and good service. It's near the old city. I recommend it and will probably visit again.

The rooms were good, and the climate control was quiet. The service and location were frustrating, though. I was woken twice in the middle of the night by a plane, since it's next to an airport, so that's one star. The internet was horrible too. I was in room 13 and had no internet at all. All the "traudoro" networks showed no internet access.
