Hotel Umag Plava Laguna

The staff made the difference for me. They were warm, attentive, and ready to help with a smile, and every detail seemed to be handled with care. My room was modern, spotless, and very comfortable, beyond what I expected. The hotel is close to everything but still peaceful. I had a perfect stay and would absolutely recommend it. I’ll be back.

The view of the sea from the hotel is incredible, whether you’re sitting out on the terrace or having a drink in the café. The café was our favourite part: cosy, with great coffee and really friendly staff who made every visit pleasant. A lovely place to unwind in Umag. Highly recommended!

I stayed here in 2023, on the top floor. The hotel is nice and the rooms are cosy, but the kitchen made a loud noise from the AC in the middle of the night, even when it was switched off. I’d recommend the hotel, just not the top floor.

The Garden Suites themselves are pleasant, and their rooms and area were nice. But the main Hotel Umag facilities, inside and out, felt dated and below current standards. The location is good, though the family offering becomes very limited from September. There were no children’s activities from mid-September, and the whole kids’ pool area was closed without this being mentioned beforehand. The other pools were so cold they were practically unusable. The hotel seemed focused mainly on coach groups and elderly guests at that time. At the lobby bar, a waiter first told us that two coffees could only be paid for in cash. Reception later said we could charge them to our room. When we checked again, the waiter denied saying that, which was confusing and unprofessional. Late checkout was another problem. Despite my Meliá Gold Member status, no extension was offered initially. After a long discussion we got until 10:30, but our room keys stopped working shortly after 10:00. We had to return to reception several times with a small child to get them reactivated. There was no apology, attention, or gesture for these inconveniences. Staff were generally not very friendly or attentive, though a few stood out: Zlatko at reception, the red-haired lady at breakfast and dining reception, and the lady making omelettes were all genuinely kind and helpful. The location and Garden Suites were nice, but the shared Hotel Umag facilities fell short on service, communication, and family-friendliness outside peak season. I’d rate our stay 2 out of 5.
