The location was great and the stay was all-inclusive. The staff were fantastic, though the facilities could do with some attention.

There’s no fridge or minibar in the rooms, and during our stay they were never cleaned or given fresh towels. Our room was also missing a hairdryer. The food was a disaster. Most of it seemed frozen, and some was old. Food from breakfast would show up again at dinner. After only a couple of meals, my whole family got sick and needed to see a doctor. At night we heard people vomiting in neighboring rooms, so it seemed to affect others too. People on the beach talked about it a lot, but there’s little you can do once you’ve paid for your accommodation. When we complained to the hotel manager, she became aggressive and said we were lying. She claimed no other guests were sick and insisted we must have eaten somewhere outside the hotel, even though we never did because we were on an all-inclusive plan. The rooms and dining area also have a distinctive smell. The parking lot only fits 20-30 cars. If you leave your car on the street, it can pick up little scratches because the road is steep and not everyone is a perfect driver. The one good thing was the sea, which was calm, warm, and amazingly clear.

We booked through a discount offer with an all-inclusive arrangement. At first, walking around the hotel to check out the beach and surroundings, we felt like we’d gone back to the 1970s. But once inside, it was clear some things are improving over time. Emma at reception was very friendly, as were everyone at the bar and in the kitchen. We usually stay in apartments, so didn’t know what to expect from a hotel, but everything worked out well. There was plenty of excellent food, and the bar stayed open all day with great service. Skip the coffee there, though, it wasn’t very good. Havana bar is a better choice, with a lovely bay view and a cozy atmosphere. Our room was clean, and the very polite cleaner brought us towels when we needed them, made the bed, replenished the soap, and cleaned the floor while we were out. The air conditioning was a little noisy but worked. Dinner on the terrace was fun, with the palm trees, moonlight, and city view. For the price, you get decent breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The cook was always checking that the buffet had enough food. We also had a bottle of wine, and the receptionist offered to keep it in the fridge since there isn’t one in the room. It was peaceful and quiet. Don’t let the first impression put you off.

The pool wasn’t working, and the bathroom fittings were rusty. Water flooded the whole bathroom right away and it stayed wet for the entire week. The food was decent, but coffee was only available at breakfast and “afternoon tea,” and there weren’t many gluten-free options. Still, for the low price, you get what you pay for. Otherwise, it was alright.
