Hotel Cool Zagreb Airport

The location and airport shuttle are the only real reasons to book this place. The site shows lots of photos and advertises a hot tub, but there isn't one. We weren't given controls for the AC, so we had to sleep with the window open, and it was noisy. There were dead bugs and spider webs in the corners, too. If you need somewhere easy near the airport, bring a sleeping bag. This doesn't feel like a four-star property. I don't know why Expedia doesn't make hotels verify their amenities.

The restaurant was the highlight for us: a good range of dishes and desserts, generous portions, and staff who served everything with care. It's good value. The room, though, felt more like a narrow motel apartment than a four-star hotel, and didn't look like the website photos. It was clean, but the old long-pile carpet felt hard underfoot. There were no bedside lamps, so we had to find our way back to bed in the dark. The small, dim bathroom had dated fixtures, though the color scheme was modern. If you want a comfortable place to sit in the evening, the only option is to ask for a restaurant table, and the spa costs extra. The restaurant and reception areas have narrow floors and are a little dark, although the restaurant itself is decorated with care. Check-in was friendly and making the reservation was fairly simple. We were asked whether we wanted breakfast for €9 per person and an airport transfer for €9 per room. The breakfast wasn't worth that price: white bread, cheese that was already melting, salami slices, a basic coffee machine, and some yogurt. Parking right by the room doors is convenient if you're driving, motel-style. The airport is fairly close, but plane noise wasn't much of an issue, and Aldi trgovina is just a short walk away. I don't think it's a bad hotel, but it doesn't live up to the four-star rating or the price of €91 a night for two people without breakfast or airport transfer.

Pretty average overall, but it works well if you need to be just minutes from the airport. The shuttle costs about €10, so it isn't free. The restaurant and its service were a pleasant surprise.
