Apartment Lena City Center Near Beach

We left a day early and expected to get one night’s payment back. The owner said leaving before 12 counted as a day less, but after we left around 11:30 she said we needed to be gone before 11, so we got no refund. We were also asked to pay €5 per night for our dog, which we refused because of the conditions. The owner wasn’t happy about that or several other things we disagreed on. The worst issue was bed bugs. We initially thought the bites might be mosquitoes, but the Raid device was plugged in and we changed its pad. We never saw or heard a mosquito, yet each morning we had several red marks in clusters of three or four. We raised it with the owner, who denied there was a problem and blamed us, suggesting we had brought them in our luggage or that our dog had. That felt completely inappropriate. Our dog was vaccinated and had received an ampule, and hadn’t shown any signs of animal bites at home in the weeks before we left. There were other problems too: the dishwasher didn’t work, water dripped from the AC so we couldn’t leave it running, and there was mold in the shower. I saw another review saying we were accused of breaking the AC. I don’t know how we could have done that, unless I’d thrown my whole body at it, but whatever. We explained the bed bug issue to the owner in Croatian, which is hard for us to speak, though we understand everything she said. I also tried Slovenian and English. She acted like she couldn’t understand a word, even though she could, and wouldn’t communicate in another language. That says a lot about how much she cares for guests. There were some good things: the location is close to the beach, including a dog beach, and near the town and restaurants. Parking is right outside the apartment. I don’t usually write bad reviews and I’m not a confrontational person, but this needed to be said. Long story short, avoid this place. Vodice won’t see us again.
