Orion

The rooms were dirty, the sheets stained, and there was a foul smell. I'd avoid this place. When we asked to move, the staff were accommodating and found us a more decent room.

Our room at Hotel Orion was small and somewhat dirty, and it was never cleaned during our three-day stay. Right after arriving, we found moths, mosquitoes, and little grey worms in the bathroom. My father and I killed more than 25 insects, yes, we counted them. The location was good, but the service was horrible.

We initially stayed at Orion for one night on our way to Split, then returned for a few more nights after finding Split crowded. Vodice had people around but felt less packed, and we wanted more time in town and at the beach. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the beach, marina, and old town, all of which looked beautiful, especially in summer and in the evenings. The staff were super kind, breakfast was plentiful, and the room's A/C was really important in the summer heat. The price was acceptable, and being on the main road made it easy to find without wasting time getting lost. The hotel is also being renewed. We'd come back. For a 3-star hotel, this felt way overpriced for the service and quality. The bed was comfortable, and the balcony looked toward the mountains, with beautiful clouds in the weather we had. The location was hard to rate as a plus or minus. Staff seemed severely understaffed for two full busloads and 3-4 car guests, so hats off to them for not quitting on the spot, but dinner took two hours to prepare and serve. The price-value score was 2/5, comfort 3/5, and service 2/5. Cleanliness was 2/5. Reception said towels were changed daily, but there weren't any in our room to begin with, so we had to ask for towels and soap. None of the towels were changed during our stay. We found other guests' earbuds and hair in the rug. There was no hairdryer either. Breakfast was 1/5. Afterward, while shopping for food to get by, I noticed everything seemed to come from Lidl's discount corner. The hotel's star rating system needs an overhaul: it has WiFi that barely had reception and kept disconnecting, A/C that barely worked, and a pool with so much algae it could be a fish breeding ground. The pipes in the walls were noisy, and the walls were so thin we could hear other guests humming in the shower. I'm not sure whether the hotel is run down because of Covid, or if it's sadly always been like this.
