A hidden gem on the island of Krk.

Great wine.

We wandered through Vrbnik, stopped for an aperitif, and spent about an hour in the village. It's tiny, but charming, with plenty of wineries thanks to Krk's vineyards and excellent white wine.

Those little coves and beaches are close enough to reach on foot, and the town itself is a lovely maze of stone lanes and tucked-away corners. Vrbnik feels relaxed and welcoming, with a coastal culture shaped by both Slovenian and Croatian influences and no mass-tourism feel. We enjoyed the views from the harbor walls and cliff edges, and the old town's pale stone, red roofs, and scents of herbs and olive oil add to the atmosphere. It's also a place for food and wine. Žlahtina is the local specialty, and small family-run konobas serve it alongside straightforward seafood dishes. The town stands on a limestone cliff above clear blue water, with dramatic scenery in every direction. Getting there is easy via the Krk Bridge, and parking is usually available near the old town. There are apartments with sea views and small guesthouses, suited to couples or small families. Spring through autumn is a good time to come, especially in the evenings, when the air cools and the light turns golden. A peaceful island break with great views, local food, and wine. I'd give it 5 out of 5.
