Hotel Dvorac Gjalski

We’ve stayed twice and would happily return. It’s affordable and handy for the border, which helped us avoid the morning traffic. The hotel is in a great spot, with comfortable, roomy rooms that were very clean and cared for. The staff were lovely and quick, and the views were very nice. Kids have trampolines and a playground to enjoy. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious.

Sleeping in a castle was a really nice experience. The old building has a distinct castle feel, and the location is convenient, about 30-45 minutes from Zagreb and right beside the small city of Zabok, in the heart of the Zagorje region in Croatia. The food was excellent. Reception staff were friendly, and restaurant service was decent, with no real complaint, though the restaurant staff could do more to make guests feel welcome. They were okay and didn’t do anything wrong. In our room, we found dead roaches. Central heating was only in the bathroom, with an electric heater in the room. There was also a bowl of candies. The castle-style room decor suited the place. It would have been great without those first two issues.

Our server was attentive and made the meal even better. The restaurant deserves a recommendation. We loved the food, from steak, tuna, and veal through to the lava cake, and the wine from a local winery was great too. What a meal!

The restaurant staff were friendly, though the courses came out slowly. I imagine there may have been too many large organized gatherings at once. I liked the food, the location is easy to get to and has a large parking area, and coming back after a long time brought back memories of my younger days and the different visits I used to make here.
