The bed was the only thing in the room that was fine. Everything else seemed to be falling apart: the curtain had come loose in one corner, the nightstand was broken, and the wood on the desk was splitting. The bathroom felt dangerous, with a broken tile you could hurt yourself on, a damaged shower floor, and the wood on the sink counter peeling away. It looked like the place had been put together by someone drunk. I’ve never had this kind of hotel experience. After we complained, we got a 10% reduction.

The rooms are in a small historic house, nicely arranged, and we slept well. The pancakes were some of the best I’ve tried, though I’m not keen on à la carte breakfast and would have booked somewhere else. The “Dalmatinska plata” wasn’t really local Dalmatian food, but okay. I didn’t notice the burnt smell my girlfriend mentioned, so that was fine. I’ll admit I wouldn’t have booked if I’d known there was no hotel reception or parking. We found nearby parking and paid for it, but it was winter, so I doubt there’ll be much available close by in summer. For a winter stay, instructions for using the AC would be useful.

The place looks pretty, just like the photos, and the location is central enough to walk everywhere. Street parking was available nearby, at €1.30 an hour from 8 to 22. But the sewage smell was constant throughout the room and bathroom, especially in the bathroom, and it really spoiled the stay. I’d seen comments about it and assumed it might just be a little smell in the bathroom, since I’m usually not picky about that. The towels smelled damp, like they’d been left wet in the washing machine for a day or two, and the sheets weren’t fully clean either. I don’t think the price is worth it.

There was nowhere to park the car, despite the listing saying there was parking. The room looked so bad and smelled so strongly that we paid and left without staying, and the owners wouldn’t refund us. On arrival, we had to haul our suitcases up narrow stairs to the top floor. Inside, there was a very strong sewage stench, dirty walls smeared with blood, and a window view of garbage and laundry, nothing like a nice view of the old town. Breakfast vouchers were left for us, but breakfast was at a completely different place, which hadn’t been mentioned when we booked. It doesn’t feel like a hotel at all, more like apartments, with no reception, parking, or breakfast cafe. I can only hope they use our money to repaint the walls so future guests’ blood won’t be mistaken for what’s already on them. Stay away.

The location worked well, just a short walk from public parking. If you’re bringing large bags, I’d ask for a first-floor room. We got one, but my brother had to lug his heavy suitcase up to the fourth floor, which was difficult. The bigger problem was the sewage odor, which was extremely strong in the bathrooms and affected all three rooms we stayed in. The hotel said old-town buildings commonly have drainage issues, though we don’t know whether other hotels have the same problem. The smell spread through the rooms and made sleep nearly impossible. I slept only two or three hours all night and kept waking up. The air freshener they used to cover the odor made it more suffocating. I really hope they fix this soon.
