HI Hostel Zagreb

The staff made me feel very welcome, and I'd happily stay here again on another trip. Before I even reached Zagreb, the team answered all my questions and helped make planning the journey less stressful. At reception, they were kind and helped with my luggage. Their suggestions for places to visit were spot on, and everyone I met was polite, humble, and happy to answer questions. I had a wonderful stay and can't recommend this hostel enough.

You get what you pay for here. It's a very basic hostel that could use some improvements. Some areas look dirty or like they're still under construction, the walls are thin, and you might come across insects. It isn't pretty, but being close to the centre and cheap does make it useful.

This building is badly run down and urgently needs renovation. There's mold in all the bathrooms, with only one shower on each floor, and the hygiene around the cabinets and under the beds is poor. I saw cockroaches in the lobby. When I told the staff, nothing was done about it.

The bathrooms were a mess, with just one shower per floor, and the lockers didn't feel secure since anyone could easily open them with the keys. There isn't an upper age limit, so there were older men snoring all night. The sounds were like choking, growling, and a chainsaw, and I couldn't sleep. The rooms felt cold, depressing, and soulless, like prison cells. There's no kitchen, and whenever you need a plate, a fork, or something useful, you have to ask the staff. They still use one physical key shared by six people, and the last person back has to return it to reception. This hostel chain is very good in the USA and other countries, so they clearly know how to run hostels. But it seems they neglect this one in Europe because it still makes money, putting in little effort for maximum profit. Worst hostel experience I've ever had. Hi Zagreb Hostel? More like Bye Zagreb Hostel. Bye, Zagreb, never again.
