I stayed at a lot of hostels over a long trip through the Balkans, and rarely have I been welcomed so badly. The reception looks more like a storeroom, with a huge board above it full of rules about what you can't do and how you're expected to behave. The rooms are very basic, with no ladders for the bunk beds. Don't get me started on the bathroom. Leaving luggage at the hostel on checkout day wasn't possible either. Other hostels are miles ahead.
It's a lovely, affordable little hostel run by a welcoming family. You do need a short tram ride to the center, but that wasn't inconvenient at all. It was nice to see some of Zagreb beyond the touristy center, and the family could point us toward places to visit.
The hosts are friendly and really try to help you have the best time, and the hostel is cheap and comfortable. I had a great stay, with just two small drawbacks: the bunk beds had no safety rails, and there was nowhere to store luggage. Still, it's probably one of the best hostels I've slept in. I highly recommend it! :)
The rooms were clean but basic, with no air conditioning or ceiling fan. I loved being welcomed into the family who run the hostel and sharing meals with them. The owners are chatty and friendly, and can suggest sights both in and beyond Zagreb.
There's a nice little common area downstairs for meeting people, and the owner offered us a free beer each day between 8 and 9.30, which was a nice touch. It's a small, friendly hostel, but the owner cares a lot about respecting the place and the other guests, so it's not for anyone looking for a party hostel.
