I got locked out of my room when my key card stopped working, and there was no help because no staff were around after 10 PM. The rooms were in very bad shape, with peeling leather headboards, stained walls and inadequate cleaning. During our school trip, they also made us pay a fine for an incident we hadn't caused. It seemed like they were trying to scam us. The food was cold and the service was poor. I definitely wouldn't recommend Hotel Phoenix in Zagreb for a trip.

We came on a school trip, and it felt like the hotel saw a chance to take money from students. The rooms were disgusting and dirty, and the staff were awful. While we were away, the cleaning ladies went through our things. They falsely accused us of breaking things and made up an accident, then argued with us unprofessionally and demanded up to 100€ for damage we hadn't caused. It was a terrible experience. Scammers.

We were charged €80 for damage we absolutely did not cause, with no evidence or explanation. It felt as if they were simply trying to get extra money from students. I stayed here on a school trip, and it was one of the worst places I've seen. The condition was shocking: walls and furniture were peeling, cracked and dirty, with damaged patches all over. The headboards were falling apart and their padding flaked off. There were brown water stains on the bathroom ceiling, which seemed unhygienic and concerning. The hotel looked badly neglected and poorly maintained. It's run-down and unprofessional, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially school groups. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

We were left stuck outside because the hotel locks its doors after 22:00, with no way in or out, and nobody had told us. Luckily, there was an emergency contact information sheet outside the gates, and that person explained how to get in. I've never stayed at a hotel with not a single staff member working overnight.

The staff were nice, and when I went downstairs about the bath towels missing from my room, they replaced them straight away. Breakfast was good, with some decent options, and the free Wi-Fi worked well. The room was spacious and had a large, functioning mini fridge, which is rare. Still, I'd rate the hotel closer to three stars by North American standards than the four stars it's listed as. It feels dated and needs updating. Only a limited number of people can use the elevator at once. Getting luggage up from the parking lot was difficult because of a huge, steep ramp. Watch out for that.
