Main Square Hostel

The facilities were good, the staff were warm, and I had a great time meeting some cool people. There were a few ants in one corner of the room, and a friend I was sharing with needed help changing his mattress cover. A receptionist working over Easter was a huge help with both issues. I can’t remember his name, but he was French, I think, and medium height. Shoutout to him.

The rooms are quite large, the beds are comfortable and roomy, and even the lockers have loads of space. They’ve got everything you need, and it’s all clean. The one drawback is a broken lock in the men’s toilet, plus gaps in both toilet doors. One funny thing: they’ve got the world’s slowest elevator, apparently a Guinness world record.

The staff were so friendly, and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. The beds felt private and were really comfortable, with large lockers too. The hostel’s in a great spot, very convenient for getting around. Bring your own shampoo and body wash. Towels aren’t included, though you can get one for €4. They may also have shampoo left behind by other guests. The elevator is incredibly slow. They even have an award for it 😂

We arrived at Main Square Hostel Zagreb around 11pm after a long day of travel, only to be told there was no room, even though we’d booked a private room months earlier and had both a confirmation email and earlier messages with the hostel. The receptionist said they were full, and we were left to find somewhere to sleep in the middle of the night. The staff member was polite, but didn’t help us resolve it. It was a really stressful, unprofessional experience. I wouldn’t trust a place that can’t honor a confirmed booking. If you want a reliable stay and some peace of mind, book elsewhere.
