Hotel Slisko

The lobby has a cool feel, with some antique items, and check-in was easy. The staff speak great English. The hotel is conveniently close to the main bus station, which worked well for me. The only thing is, the room key wasn't an actual key. Otherwise, a nice, convenient hotel.

My girlfriend got food poisoning after eating homemade desserts from the breakfast buffet, specifically one and a half cinnamon dough balls with brown filling. I ate half of one and also got an upset stomach, though not as badly. I'm convinced those desserts were the cause because she ate nothing else that day. When I cleaned up her vomit, I recognized ingredients from the dough balls. I only took photos of the second time she vomited, when about 80% was on the floor and 20% in the toilet. I was too busy helping her the first time. I checked with the cook in the fridge the next day. The dough balls were gone, thankfully, but none of the food had a preparation date label, which is against food safety rules for horeca. That's dangerous. Hotel staff still didn't believe us because nobody else reported food poisoning that day. There were fewer than 10 of those balls available, and people often don't report it when it's only a stomach upset. Do you need four people projectile vomiting before you'll believe us? We had to argue just to get a late checkout at 12h. Extending the room into the afternoon so my girlfriend could recover from the food was out of the question. They also wouldn't reimburse us for the breakfast that made her sick or the next day's breakfast, which she couldn't eat because she was nauseous. The night staff and cook were nice about it. At my request, night staff brought clean towels because the others were dirty with vomit. The morning staff guy with glasses was not helpful at all. He didn't believe us, give us the benefit of the doubt, or try to find a solution. His behavior was unprofessional and below any 3*** hotel standard.

The staff were lovely, kind, and generous with information about Zagreb. It felt like the good old kind of hospitality, where guests are appreciated and valued. Thank you for the amazing service. 💜

We wanted somewhere away from the city centre, and this location suited us. Parking is free and convenient, and getting in and out is easy. Our room was comfortable, nothing plush, but no complaints. The staff spoke English and were very accommodating. The breakfast buffet was much more than I expected. Two thumbs up. We'll stay here again.
