Sunčani Apartments

We stayed in winter and the heating worked really well, so the house was warm. The hosts are nice, thoughtful people, and the cottage I slept in was clean, cosy and furnished with care. These are several houses with a yard between them in the suburbs of Zagreb, near the highway. I had two problems. The cottage has a 30-litre boiler, so with two beds, a double and a single, plus a sofa, there isn’t enough hot water for everyone to shower one after another. You have to wait for it to heat up again. I was also unpleasantly surprised to see a dog in a cage in the yard, apparently kept there for days without being let out. There was a lot of feces in the cage.

The hosts were friendly, spoke several languages, and helped with everything from sightseeing ideas to suggestions for a dentist or doctor in case you need one. I spent a lovely week in this historic cottage, which is beautifully maintained and cosy while still having all the modern comforts. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the kitchen and bathroom had everything I needed. It’s a great base for seeing Zagreb without the crowds and traffic: the bus stop is a five-minute walk away and connects directly to the excellent tram service. Several grocery stores and Arena Zagreb shopping mall are close by, while the cottage itself sits among lovely lavender gardens and fruit trees in an idyllic setting. There’s plenty of parking and strong WiFi. I can’t recommend the experience highly enough.

A lovely family-run place on the edge of the city. The apartment was excellent and spotless, with free off-street parking, WiFi and satellite TV. It’s very handy for the brilliant city transport system. Highly recommended.

Suncani apartmani (Sunny apartments) really felt like home. The owners are warm and welcoming, and the yard and apartments have lovely handmade details that make the place feel like a house from a fairy tale. Our kid loved it, too. It’s in a quiet area, roughly halfway between the airport and downtown, and easy enough to find when coming from the airport. We’ll definitely come back when we’re in Zagreb.
