The City Lodge Boutique Apartments

There’s no elevator that I saw, and the apartment is up two flights of stairs, so keep that in mind if stairs or accessibility are a dealbreaker. The foyer is meant to have a motion-triggered light, though it didn’t always come on and could be a bit dark. The stairwell itself is well lit. To get in, you enter a code at the street door, then another for the lobby-like main space, and scan your key for your room. Be sure to pull the street door shut. I felt really secure there. The location is great for cafes, bakeries, restaurants, shops, flower stands, bookshops, the funicular to Upper Town, trams, and a taxi stand across the street. The hosts were quick to reply on WhatsApp, which was especially helpful for first-time visitors to Zagreb. The kitchenette had basic utensils and appliances, and there’s a small grocery a few shops away, handy whether you need a toothbrush or something to cook. The bathroom worked well and had a hair dryer, plus little packets of shampoo and body wash. It was also the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed. Cute and charming, with windows that open onto the street. Most nights were quiet, except for about an hour during a peaceful International Woman’s Day march below. I’d stay again!

My experience with City Lodge Zagreb was incredibly disappointing. I paid for two days, but they cancelled the whole booking because I missed the first day. I couldn’t get through to them, and their suggestion that I file a claim through the platform was unacceptable. They also refused when I asked to use the second night I’d already paid for. The lack of professionalism means I can’t recommend them.

The studio was spacious, clean, comfortable, and well equipped, right in the centre with a huge choice of bars and restaurants nearby. Check-in and check-out were contactless, communication was great, and the whole stay went smoothly. I’d highly recommend the City Lodge as an alternative to a hotel. The only thing I’d add is a coffee machine in the common area. :-)

The studio was spacious and laid out well, and the location was good. It’s on the second floor with no elevator, which can be a bit of a problem if you’re carrying big luggage.
