Apartment Maurel

I don't normally leave reviews, but I feel I have to this time. After all our holidays in Croatia, this was the worst "apartment" we've stayed in. It was really a STUDIO, made by dividing a larger room with gypsum boards. There was no hallway, doors or storage space. I paid for an "apartment" and an extra 40€ for early check-in so we could get into the STUDIO sooner. Here's what we found. The photos that convinced us to book looked like they were taken when the place was furnished, and honestly looked like a fairy tale. There was supposed to be a washing machine in the bathroom, but the furniture and bathroom vanity were neglected. Half the basic kitchen items were missing, including dish towels, something for separating waste and utensils. What was there was dirty, stained, greasy or had food left on it. There were cobwebs in the corners and the bedroom wardrobe didn't work. The whole studio felt like it had been finished only halfway and furnished with the least effort possible. There was no shelf by the bathroom sink, apparently because one had broken and never been replaced. The shower door was hard to open, and the toilet seat was very wobbly. The sofa was small and hard to sleep on. We came toward the end of August, when there were lots of mosquitoes inside and out. The blinds made the terrace completely unusable and untidy, and they could at least have put up mosquito nets. The only good things were the convenient refueling 😜 and the nearby beach. We had told the owner a young family with two small children was coming, and she could have said the "STUDIO" wasn't suitable for us. It seemed she cared only about the money 💸, since the first thing she brought up when we arrived was documents and payment. Hello.

We found the apartment poorly maintained and very expensive for what it offered. There hadn't been any investment in the equipment, either. We don't recommend it.

The owner was very kind and always available when we needed anything. We also really appreciated that the apartment welcomes pets. The place was spacious, with two bedrooms, two terraces and two air conditioners, plus excellent internet. It had parking, a fully fenced yard and video surveillance. The beach was lovely for small children, and I liked that there were no paid activities for kids beside it, since we usually spend a lot on those.

I've never stayed somewhere so unclean. The kitchen was filthy and moldy, there was pet hair on the sofa bed, and the whole apartment smelled bad and felt extremely damp. The beds reeked of damp too and were rock hard. We couldn't cook because everything was so disgusting, so we had to buy our own plates and cutlery. We cut our holiday short. I'm not usually fussy, and I don't expect new furniture in an apartment, but the hygiene was nonexistent. It's outrageous to charge for a place like this and then be rude when someone complains. We only had a few days off this year and wanted to rest and relax. Thanks, but never again.
