Hotel Vinifera Wine & Spa

The hotel is modern, beautiful, clean, and in a fantastic setting. The staff were polite, but when something went wrong, they weren’t much help, and the repeated problems really overshadowed our family weekend. Our toddler couldn’t nap comfortably while the air conditioning was broken. On the first night it blew warm air, and opening the balcony door wasn’t a safe option because the cot was right in front of it. We reported the problem the next morning. A technician came at 10:45 am, after we complained again, but the room still wouldn’t cool down. Eventually, after a long wait and several attempts, we were moved to another room and could sleep comfortably. The late checkout they offered as an apology brought more trouble. After the regular checkout time, our room cards stopped working. The lifts were out of service, so with our toddler we had to use the stairs to get to the room. At one point we were locked out in our swimwear. My mom, who was visiting for what was meant to be our last family weekend together, was locked out of her room too. We also asked several times for a toddler step stool for the bathroom, first when booking and then twice at reception. It took repeated requests before it arrived. Families with young children should know that basic comforts may not be dependable, and that they may not be a priority. The heat, lack of sleep, and service problems made what should have been a special, relaxing weekend stressful and exhausting.

Wines, food, and wellness come together beautifully here, in a lovely setting. It’s my favorite five-star hotel. A must if you’re in Hungary near Lake Balaton!

Usually, the food, service, and facilities make for a wonderful stay. Quiet is especially important to my family, and the hotel’s own rules even mention it on a plaque in the sauna area. This time, a loud, rowdy crowd ruined the peaceful atmosphere. The noise lasted from breakfast into the afternoon, more like a very noisy restaurant. It’s a shame that management made no effort to deal with it.

The room was comfortable and nicely equipped, but some furniture was chipped. There was also a previous guest’s T-shirt behind the curtain that was never taken away. Bottled water wasn’t replenished twice, and the coffee capsules were missing once. At a 5-star superior hotel, I’d expect original Nespresso capsules. There were smaller service lapses in the wellness bar too: water was available, but glasses or refills were often missing, so we had to ask. Reception was generally fine, though the staff at both check-in and check-out seemed shy speaking English and could be hard to understand. We really enjoyed our stay at Vinifera. It’s a new, modern hotel with nice equipment, a lovely garden, pool, and wellness area. The restaurant is pleasant and serves delicious food with plenty of choice. Breakfast is buffet style, with good-quality items and lots of homemade options like yogurt, cottage cheese, and marmalades. You can also get an omelette made how you like it. Dinner combines buffet appetizers and desserts with à la carte main courses, plus a buffet selection for children. The food was delicious. Still, a few details fell short of a 5-star superior experience. Breakfast waffles and pancakes were often burnt, and twice we got the wrong dinner menu. The duck breast was cold on our first evening. Service varied too: one waitress was abrupt, the sommelier on our last night was outstanding, and on another evening a waiter misunderstood our order because of limited English. We still enjoyed the food and drinks. It’s these little things that, for me, make the difference in a true 5-star superior stay.
