Pelso Camping

Lake Balaton looked stunning and the weather was perfect for a holiday, but our stay was a huge disappointment, especially at 171 Euros a night (76,000 Hungarian forints) for a premium mobile home meant for six. The place was crawling with ants and spiders. Ants were on every surface, even pulling apart the plastic interior on the ceiling and under a window. Little bits of debris and plastic fell onto our pillows and heads while we slept, and we may have inhaled them. The photos show the white powder. It got so bad that we asked to move to another mobile home. That replacement took hours to be ready, despite us asking repeatedly. We came back three hours after the time we’d been given, only to learn they’d forgotten to tell us it had finally been cleaned. We lost the whole day in the house, our plans were thrown off, and our children missed their nap time. When we raised the problems, the lead receptionist brushed us off, saying, "We are in middle of nature here; this is a camping, not a hotel room." They also called the move "for free" generous, even though moving cost us our time and energy and felt like the bare minimum. We asked about a discount and got a look as if we were from Mars. A small treat voucher for the beach, 25% off the stay, or even a voucher for a future visit that we’re unlikely to use could have shown some care and improved how the complaint was handled. They did none of that, and didn’t seem to care that we’d promised to leave a bad review. It makes me think they live by the motto: we rip you off once, shame on us; we rip you off twice, shame on you. The attached photos also show how active the ants were and how filthy and uncleaned the shared facilities were. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless you’re open to an adventure.

We had a great time with the family and kids near Lake Balaton. The kids got lots of playtime, and hiring a SUP and using the inflatable was great.

We spent nine days at camping Pelso as a family of four and really enjoyed it, even though the recent reviews had made me a little concerned. A lot of that was down to the mobile home we got, Beachview 10, in a great spot with a lovely view. It was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The kids loved the playground, slides, and animation, while we sat on the porch watching the view and the activity in front of us. It was a very nice holiday.

If you get one of the good areas of the campsite, it’s really enjoyable. The Premium mobile homes we rented were very nice, and there are some pleasant parts of the grounds. It also looks like they’re putting money into newer sections. But the older areas feel very old, with several buildings shut, unused, or even burned down.
