Hotel Lycium Debrecen - Handwritten Collection

It's good value for money, right in the central part of Debrecen. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast had lots of fresh options, including freshly made food. Don't miss the wellness area on the third floor: there's a sauna, jacuzzi, pool, solarium, and an open terrace where you can sit outside on a nice summer day.

Our room was bright and spacious, with bedroom accessories in lovely colours that worked well together and made it feel cozy. The king-sized bed was super comfortable, and the air conditioning worked without any problems. The standard rooms don't have balconies, but we had a little table and a couple of chairs outside our room, even though the view wasn't the best. The pool and wellness area isn't very big, but it was refreshing. There's also a large desk where two people can sit, and a fairly spacious bathroom with hand soap and shower gel dispensers. We stayed for just a couple of nights, but they changed our towels, made the bed, and emptied and sanitized the bins without us asking. The TV wasn't working, though we didn't plan to use it anyway. Breakfast was generous, with a machine for soft drinks and coffee, plus bottled sparkling and still water. There's a buffet breakfast and a dinner option too. The hotel was decent and clean, and the reception staff were polite. We did have to wait more than 15 minutes at checkout to be served. Overall, it was quite good value for money.

We chose this hotel because a standard room included access to the wellness area, and we went with our toddler. When we arrived, there were no slippers in our room, and we were told we'd have to pay for them. I don't think booking.com made that clear, since it emphasized "free wellness." We called reception to ask for slippers and were told we had to come to the desk to collect them. We bought them and went up to the wellness area. Our room was on the second floor and the wellness area on the third, but the elevator on that side was out of order, so we had to use the stairs in our swimsuits, robes, and slippers. That wasn't OK after bathing, especially with a toddler. There were two saunas, but one was out of order and the other was reserved for a "ceremony" until 7pm. So we couldn't use a sauna. When we came back, our neighbors in two nearby rooms were noisy. After dinner the noise was even worse. Our child needed to sleep, so I went to reception and found out there was a private party at the hotel. The guests in those rooms were probably attending it. We asked to move rooms without having to move our things that evening, and they agreed. That's the only positive part of the stay. Why put private party guests next to a room with a toddler in the first place? The new room had slippers and toiletries, which had also been missing from our original room. At first I thought it might be a better room than the standard one, but at checkout we were told both rooms were the same type and price. So why charge us for the slippers? No sauna, no elevator, no slippers, and no quiet. We're not coming back. Breakfast was modest.

The reception staff were extremely nice and accommodating, and the rooms were very clean and big, with a huge bed. The wellness area was quite good too. I was pleasantly surprised by how much attention they paid to health and safety during these times, including having staff serve you at breakfast instead of letting everyone breathe on and touch all the food. It was the nicest hotel stay I'd had in a long time, and very good value for money.
