We had a great stay at this guesthouse. It’s a ten-minute walk to both the city centre and Szépasszonyvölgy, where the wine cellars are. Breakfast was varied, something like an English breakfast, and the room was very comfortable, with air conditioning and blinds that blocked the sunlight completely for a good lie-in. The host was excellent. He explained everything clearly in English to my partner, though I speak Hungarian and could have translated, and offered to call a cab whenever we needed one. On our last night a thunderstorm knocked out the guesthouse electricity. We called, and he came over straight away. After breakfast he explained what had happened and when it would be fixed. We were leaving that morning, so the outage didn’t affect us, but he still gave us a bottle of wine as an apology. It was a really good bottle.

It’s a guest house rather than a hotel, and although the room is dated, it’s comfortable and charming. I felt very much at home, even though it isn’t luxurious. The host is warm, friendly, and accommodating. It’s a little away from the busy area, so it’s quiet and peaceful. Coffee and tea are provided in the pantry. The Wi-Fi is strong in the kitchen, but not outside.
