Hotel Capitulum

Great location, a nice room, and a good price. It’s a very nice hotel, highly recommended.

The rooms are fairly spacious, and the hotel sits in Györ’s old town, which is a good spot. But the stay didn’t feel worth what I paid. Breakfast had little variety and wasn’t good, and there was no free water even though the night cost over 100 €. In my room the fridge didn’t work, the cold-water pressure was too low, and the AC couldn’t keep up. With it running at full power, the temperature kept creeping higher.

The location is the main reason this gets any credit. It’s a little tricky to reach, but once you’re in and parked, the best places and sights are close by. The parking was good too, so I’d raise my rating from two to three for that. Inside, the whole facility was freezing. Every radiator was cold, and the staff sat under a blanket without being able to explain why. I came home with a fever. The room had an old-fashioned look, a king-size bed with a split mattress and just one uncomfortable pillow. A sensor above the bed flashed a bright light now and then, which was annoying. The AC finally warmed the room, but the bathroom stayed icy even with its heater, which was cold too. There was no water in the room, so we had to take it from the minibar and pay at checkout. Breakfast tried to look perfect but fell short. Everything was cold, including the nearly raw Viennese eggs, and there wasn’t much tasty food to choose from. Some of the products also seemed to have a lot of additives.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was good. The problem was they stopped putting out fresh food too early, even though breakfast was still going, so there was little or nothing left unless you asked them to make more. Our first room smelled strongly of sewage, so we had to switch rooms. The rooms themselves were nice. Otherwise, no complaints.
