Muskatli Panzio

We arrived at 9 p.m. with our two dogs and had no trouble checking in. The room even had its own entrance from the street. It was clean, the host was lovely, and the price felt fair. We’d recommend it.

The walls are so thin that you hear other guests and every late check-in. There’s no privacy from the noise at all. And the balcony looked straight onto a big set of pigeon cages. The pigeons woke up a couple of hours before I wanted to, which was a surprise since I hadn’t seen them mentioned on the homepage. The bathroom was the worst part of the stay. It wasn’t dirty, but it’s clearly worn and badly in need of renovation. The bed was small, uncomfortable, noisy, and I could feel the springs. It reminded me of Zanka in the early 80s. The sheets also had holes. On the plus side, a room was available and the receptionist was okay. It’s near the city, but in a quiet spot. Still, I can’t recommend it.

We got in late and woke the receptionist, but he didn’t seem bothered. He even cracked jokes in Hungarian that only he could understand. He was about 70, and the room seemed older than he was; the TV looked older still. It was cute, though, and we had a nice stay overall. Maybe a bit pricey for this part of the world.

Gabro, who I think is the owner, gave us a warm welcome from the moment we arrived. He’s a really nice older man. This is a cozy guest house, not a luxury hotel, but it costs less than anywhere else in town. We had a really nice time there.
