We were passing through and thought we’d make a spontaneous stop to see the animals, with no plan to stay overnight. When we arrived, there was nobody around and no directions about where to go. I called the number on the website. The man on the phone was quite rude when he said we couldn’t visit the birds because of bird flu, which I could understand. He then told me animal visits weren’t a service anymore, though I’d assumed they were since it’s called an ostrich weekendhouse. I was looking forward to taking a few pictures, but he called back to say I wasn’t allowed to take photos at all, even for personal use. It didn’t feel welcoming or kind, and after that hospitality I wouldn’t want to stay there.

The owner knows his stuff and takes you around himself, which I like. Visiting at the start of ostrich season might be a good idea.

We had a really tasty dinner cooked in the oven, and the hospitality was wonderful. There are lots of ostriches and Emus, and the accommodation was impeccable. The place is fantastic and worth the drive of up to 10 km from the highway. I’d love to return!

A quiet, homely place with a modern feel. Everything was clean, the kitchen had good equipment, and the furniture and room were nice. We’d recommend it to anyone looking for some peace and quiet. 😉

It was closed when I visited, though I could still spot a 3-meter-tall ostrich from quite far away.
