Hotel Aurum Family

The condition of the hotel and room was shocking. Our friends had a dirty room too, and ours smelled unpleasant. The cot for our child was dirty and very worn; I wouldn't feel right offering one like that to guests. The dining room chairs needed a thorough clean, and the hallway walls and wallpaper were scratched and dirty. The wellness facilities are actually in a “partner” hotel a couple of hundred metres away, which is impractical. For a place supposed to be four stars, that felt like a way to claim the rating. Hotel Aurum Family “A” also didn't seem like a fitting name for a family hotel, given that workers, possibly construction workers, were staying during the week and wore dirty work clothes everywhere. No disrespect intended, but I did wonder how they could afford “this hotel” at its four-star price. We visited the nearby Hunguest Beke two months earlier for about the same price, and the two hotels aren't comparable. I would never stay here again. It needs a professional reassessment of whether it really merits four stars. The absolute low point for me.

The pool and fitness room weren't available, and the rooms were in very poor condition. Shower water ran into the room, there were dead insects on the floor, and the carpet had a strong dusty smell. Dinner and breakfast were reasonable, but the problems couldn't be fixed, so we left a day early. The room hadn't been cleaned the next day either. At most, I'd call this three-star accommodation.

I was there for nine nights on a business trip. On arrival I thought it might be a good hotel because the building next door looked very nice and was called Aurum Hotel, without “Family” in the name. The pictures also made the rooms look much bigger than they actually are. After a few days I asked for a fresh towel, but room service never brought one. I also asked if I could have a plate in my room and was told I had to eat in the dining room and couldn't take it back. The room smelled like carpet. The location is the one good thing; everything else was really bad, and the price is wildly too high. It's a shame. Thanks.

The bed was comfortable and I slept well. The location is great for Hungarospa, our room had good Wi-Fi, and parking was generous, though it cost 6-7 euros a night. We were travelling with a small dog and the hotel was pet-friendly, but there was an extra 12 euros per night. Breakfast and dinner were included in the nightly rate. A few things weren't made clear: when I called from home, nobody mentioned the parking fee. Staff didn't speak anything except Hungarian, which made communication very hard. The bathroom towels were too thin for a four-star hotel, the shower gel was low quality, and there was nowhere in the shower to put toiletries. There was no room or hotel information in English either. To turn on the AC, I had to go down to reception and give them my room number and desired temperature. They said to dial 0 from the room phone, but that phone didn't work. The floors were dirty, and the restaurant didn't accept credit cards. Breakfast coffee came from an instant coffee machine. If you want a good espresso, you have to get one at the bar for about 1.26 euros. The place is full of families with kids, so if you're travelling without children, Aurum Family may not suit your stay. In my opinion it isn't four-star, maybe three. I don't recommend it.
