The location is convenient, with the thermal lake a short walk away and many restaurants within five minutes on foot. Balaton lake is about a 15-minute drive. The front desk agent was polite and helpful. There’s free parking about a 12-minute walk away across the stadium; otherwise, street parking is paid from 8:00-18:00, so check the signs. Check-in is at Hotel Kalma on the next street. It’s an old hotel, and the rooms are small with an odd layout. Our one-bedroom unit had two single beds in a tiny bedroom and an old sofa bed. It smelled of smoke, which was very unpleasant. Smoking isn’t allowed in the rooms, but it seems people break that rule. The furnishings and fixtures are outdated, and the door handle was falling apart. There’s a partial kitchen with a microwave for simple meals, but no oven, and no laundry in the unit. There’s no air conditioning either. They provide two small fans, but it was still unbearably hot in the middle of the day, even with the windows open.

We had a great week in Hévíz. The beds were comfortable, the linen was clean, and the shower was okay. The apartment was serviced daily, with fresh towels each day, which we appreciated. There was a sleeper couch and two single beds, but no air conditioning and poor ventilation, so the two fans ran 24/7. There was lots of counter space and plenty of plug sockets. The fridge was great, and we made sandwiches as well as tea and coffee. The bedroom lighting was lacking: just a small, insignificant lamp, and neither light worked properly.

The reception and breakfast are in a different building on another street, about 200 meters away. The lake is very close.

The only good thing about this accommodation was the kind, helpful staff at Kalma Hotel. 🙁 This “studio apartment” is really a hotel room with a mini kitchen squeezed into the hallway. The dated, uncomfortable furnishings and coverings look as if they haven't changed since the nineties. The room window faces a covered inner courtyard, and it barely opens, so ventilation is difficult. On top of that, terrible panpipe music and playback music from the ground floor café echo loudly into the room all day, from morning to evening. I wouldn't expect to relax here for several days.
