Szente Vendghz

After two nights, we were ready to leave. On the third night my wife warned us about large black bugs coming out of the drain. We planned to shut the bathroom door, but by bedtime bugs had made it into the bedrooms too. One crawled up the wall, another flew across the room, and a third went through the floor. The children ran out screaming that one was in their bed. I killed quite a few in the rooms and bathroom that night, and we decided not to stay. The owner’s daughter, who had handled the booking and payment, refunded the last night. The place had smelled musty when we arrived, with a soot smell by the chimney cleaning hatch. We found black cobwebs above the cupboards and big stains on the living room carpet. The kitchen was very dirty: we had to scrape out the sink and wash the dishes before using them. The kettle had a thick layer of yellow grime, there was white grease-like stuff on the wall tiles, and the tablecloth and bathroom taps had black stains. I didn’t want to put my towel on the bathroom rail because it was filthy around the horizontal pipes, with a long hair in the vertical one. The listing said pets weren’t allowed, but the owner had a dog that barked at me whenever I went out and sometimes came into our room through the balcony door. When I left the garden gate open while bringing in luggage, the dog ran out, and the owner asked me to close it when coming and going. The gate was difficult to use because its hollow sections were rotten and warped. The listing also claimed there was a closed parking lot, though the street photo shows otherwise. It said the two-room apartment had air conditioning and window screens, but only one room had either. The owner lives here off season and stays in another building at the back during the season, and some of his belongings were left in the cupboards. Overall, the apartment was a big disappointment, and the cleanliness was questionable.

We had a spacious, clean room with working air conditioning and everything we needed. The beach is nearby, and we ate well. Our host was lovely, and the little dog is adorable. I recommend it to everyone.

It’s a modern, really clean place with everything provided, and the host was so helpful and nice. We even had a separate place to store our bikes safely. Shops and restaurants are just a 5-10 minute walk away, and it’s a pleasant stroll into the city center. I’d highly recommend staying here.

The area is lovely, and Keszthely Castle is right in the center. We stayed in a family house just a short walk from the center. The train connections weren’t very good, and lots of places accept Szép cards.
