There’s plenty to explore nearby, whether you head out by bike or car. Lake Hársas is especially worth a visit on a hot day, and the town and surrounding woods are lovely to walk around. For a quiet, fun weekend in Őrség, this is a great place to bring a tent. The camping area sits in the heart of Őrség, with a large garden and grassy spots among apple and walnut trees. You can park for free right beside your tent, and there’s a covered carport for three cars. Some areas are shaded, and kids have a swing at the far end of the garden. There are two power points, each with four sockets. The camping kitchen has a gas stove, a fridge with a freezer compartment, a sink with hot water, and sometimes plates and cutlery left behind by other campers. There’s also a covered dining space with wooden benches for 16. The toilets and showers are in a wooden building beside the kitchen, about 10 metres from the tents. All three toilets and all three showers were spotless, and the showers had hot water. You can rent simple wooden cabins with beds, too. They have a separate kitchen nearby with similar equipment and another covered dining area. There’s no toilet in the cabins, but one is available outside. A separate apartment has its own kitchen and toilet. For meals outdoors, there’s a fire pit, and dry wood is available on request. You can also ask for skewers, a cauldron or a grill, and there’s a covered seating area by the fire. It’s a good fit for small children, and if you’re lucky, you may get to pet some of the backyard animals. The reservation arrangements were flexible for us: after a cancellation, we were able to switch from a tent to a wooden cabin without any fuss.

Kati, the owner, was really kind and ready to help whenever something came up. The campsite itself is small and works well for both tents and campers. There’s a kitchenette and covered seating, plus simple restrooms that are kept in good shape and showers with hot water.

A really handy base for our cycling star tour, with a friendly, helpful host and a cozy spot for breakfast. There’s a potluck option, too. It’s quiet after midnight, which meant we could get proper rest before another full day of cycling.
