After a day of driving, the shower’s powerful spray and seemingly endless hot water were a treat. The sheets were clean and the beds comfortable. For what we paid, I couldn’t ask for more from a good place to stay.

The only reason I gave this place one star is its location near the Abbey. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The room was cramped, with a double bed and two singles and hardly any space to walk. It smelled dusty and musty, almost like smelly feet. The bathroom also smelled as if it hadn’t been properly deep cleaned, and poor ventilation let that smell into the bedroom. My husband and I felt itchy after sleeping there, which I assume may have been due to dust mites. The floor seemed neither vacuumed nor mopped, and the rugs looked as if they’d never been vacuumed or washed. The room had dusty corners, scratched walls and cobwebs, while the furniture was poorly maintained, chipped and rotting in places. Curtains were hanging off the rail and hadn’t been put back up for new guests. The beds were uncomfortable and lumpy; the spring bed wobbled badly and sounded worn out. The duvets smelled old and musty, and their covers didn’t look clean or fresh. The bathroom had a shower with good pressure, but its holder was broken. The sink cabinet was peeling badly, and the towel rail and shower cubicle were dirty. Even the supposedly clean towels were stained, and the bathroom floor mat was disgusting. There were no room amenities at all, no phone, kettle or water. We had our 10 week old baby with us, and the only fridge was out in the hallway and switched off. They wanted payment for the rooms by card, but breakfast in cash, with everything paid upfront. Now I understand why. At breakfast I found hair and plastic on the food. I won’t say more.

We stayed for a night on our way to Germany. Everything was fine, the rooms were clean and breakfast was good.

A reasonably priced pension with good quality rooms. The bathroom was great, and the shower had good pressure.
