Hotel Central

We had a large, spacious room, and liked the modern decor, comfortable bed and little kitchen area with a fridge and microwave. The staff were friendly, and the hotel is well placed, near the city centre with a shopping mall and parking across the street. Sleep was the big problem. A bar opposite played loud music, with people talking until 5 a.m. We also heard conversations and furniture being moved around inside the hotel in the middle of the night. We barely slept. There’s no elevator, which was an issue with our room on the third floor. Parking costs 400 forints an hour, which isn’t cheap. We paid late and got a 5600 forint fine.

You’re right next to the Arkad, so shopping and dining are just a few steps away. The rooms are nice, and the staff were very friendly. A great hotel.

The apartment was extremely clean, bright and spacious, with a microwave, fridge, TV, air conditioning and towels. It was better than most apartments in classic 4-star hotels, and the heating worked really well, especially during our January stay. Breakfast was Mediterranean-style with plenty of options, and staff would bring more if something ran out. The staff were very friendly and did their best to answer questions and help. I hope I got the receptionist’s name right, Barbara, or at least I think it starts with B. She was a great host, from welcoming us and sharing information to being helpful throughout. The rest of the staff deserve praise too. The location is right in the city centre, with Arkad Shopping Center along the side and front of the hotel and plenty of quick meal options. There’s city parking in front and nearby, and we could almost always find a space. I used the Easy park app, which was easy to use for locating the car and finding the parking zone. You link a payment card and choose how long to pay for. The first zone in front of the hotel came to about 1.10 euros per hour, including costs. You can also pay through the app shown on the parking pole using a mobile operator, though that may not suit you without a Hungarian number, or use a street parking machine. It’s a three-star "Garni" hotel, basically a Bed & Breakfast. Reception is open until 18 hours, and if you arrive after it’s open, they give you a code for the front door with your room key. There’s no elevator, just stairs. Reception and the dining area are on the first floor, and rooms are on the first, second and third floors. We didn’t see that as a drawback.

The room was nice and clean, breakfast was okay, and the staff were nice. Parking is hard to find and somewhat expensive. The worst part was an AC unit under the window that kept switching on and off noisily all night. A light just behind the window was also switching on and off.
